Exciting News from School Directors

Dear RSB community,

Happy New Year to everyone!

We have exciting news to share. As of June 30, 2021, after more than two decades, Mary LeGere and Susan Galdy will step down from our positions as Directors of The Raleigh School of Ballet. We are very excited to announce that the school will continue under excellent leadership when Hong Yang takes over as school director.  With the support of RSB’s  extraordinary faculty and staff, we have no doubt that the school will continue to thrive and excel.

This transition was several years in the making, as we contemplated retirement and the future of RSB, so we are thrilled to make this announcement and that the school will live on in this way.  We anticipate that the transition will be as smooth and seamless as it was when RSB/RDT founder, Ann Vorus passed the directorship of the school on to us so many years ago.

Our many years directing the school, nurturing, mentoring and training hundreds of dancers has been such a wonderful journey. RSB is the sum of its parts. This community of  caring teachers, committed students and families is so very special. Now, it is time to pass the baton. We are thrilled that the school’s tradition of providing  top quality, professional ballet training  in a disciplined,  but nurturing  environment will live on into the next generation of dancers and families under Ms Yang’s guidance.

Over the next 6 months we will be working closely with Ms Yang so that she is ready to take the helm on July 1. We will continue to oversee the transition “from the wings” for the duration of 2021. What joy we will take in watching The Raleigh School of Ballet continue to hold its place as a  premier training program for young dancers.

A note from Ms Yang:

Dear RSB Families,

It has been a pleasure to teach at The Raleigh School of Ballet. Since the first day I began teaching at RSB in 2014 it has felt like home. I’m honored for this new opportunity to be the school’s director and grateful that Ms. Galdy and Ms. LeGere trust me to continue the wonderful  professional program they have developed.

My goal is  to make this transition as smooth and seamless as possible.  I hope to be able to bring my own experiences to the table as I work with the faculty and staff to uphold RSB’s traditions and high standards of quality classical ballet  training.  I look forward  to working with you all.

Sincerely,

Hong Yang
